What the full check covers

Eight checks, one report, £9.99. Data from Experian AutoCheck, DVLA and DVSA, pulled at the moment you order.

🚔

Stolen vehicle check

Checked against the Police National Computer. If the motorhome has been reported stolen, you need to know before you hand over a deposit. Included in the full check.

💳

Outstanding finance check

Most motorhomes are bought on finance. If PCP, HP or a loan is still owed, the lender can repossess the vehicle from you. We catch it for £9.99.

⚠️

Insurance write-off check

Categories A, B, S and N. Has it been written off by an insurer and repaired back onto the road? Habitation damage after an accident is often the costliest kind.

📏

Mileage verification

Every odometer reading checked against the full MOT history. If the mileage has been wound back or looks suspicious, we flag it.

🔁

Plate & identity history

Previous registration marks, colour changes and keeper history, the classic ways a ringed or stolen vehicle hides its past.

📄

DVLA & MOT record

Tax status, MOT status and full MOT test history with recorded mileages, pulled live from official government data.

Frequently asked questions

What does the £9.99 motorhome check include?

Everything the trade checks before they hand over money: stolen marker (Police National Computer feed), outstanding finance (with lender name and contact number), insurance write-off records (MIAFTR, with category and loss date), scrapped and export status, previous registration plates, keeper history, colour changes and high-risk markers, plus DVLA vehicle details and full MOT history with recorded mileages. Data from Experian AutoCheck, DVLA and DVSA.

Why do motorhomes especially need a history check?

Three reasons. The money at stake: used motorhomes routinely sell for £30,000 to £70,000, so a hidden finance agreement or write-off is a five-figure mistake. Finance is common: most motorhomes are bought on finance, and an unsettled agreement means the lender can repossess the vehicle from you. And theft and ringing target high-value leisure vehicles specifically.

Does this work for campervans and van conversions?

Yes. Anything with a UK registration plate can be checked: coachbuilt motorhomes, A-class, campervans and van conversions. If DVLA knows the registration, we can run the full check.

Does this work for touring caravans?

No, and neither can any other number-plate checker: touring caravans are not registered with DVLA. The only register holding tourer theft, finance and write-off records is CRiS, run by HPI for the National Caravan Council, and their check costs £17.95. Our touring caravan guide explains exactly what CRiS covers and what to inspect in person.

How fast is the report?

The report is generated and emailed within minutes of payment. If any data source is temporarily down, we chase it and you get the completed report the same day, or a full refund.

What does a write-off category mean for a motorhome?

Category A and B vehicles should never return to the road. Category S means structural damage that was repairable; Category N means non-structural. An S or N motorhome can be legal and roadworthy, but expect a lower price, check repair quality carefully, and remember that habitation damage such as water ingress after an accident often costs more to fix than the mechanical repair.

Why a motorhome history check matters

Buying a used motorhome without a proper check is a serious risk. At £30,000 to £70,000, a motorhome is one of the largest purchases most people make outside their home, and the things that go wrong are expensive: outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, clocked mileage and hidden identity changes.

Outstanding finance is the single most common nasty surprise. Most motorhomes are bought on finance, and if the seller has not settled it, the lender's claim survives the sale, meaning the vehicle can be repossessed from you even after you have paid for it in full.

Our full check runs the same data the trade uses: a stolen marker against the Police National Computer, outstanding finance agreements with lender details, insurance write-off records with category and loss date, mileage across the full MOT history, previous registration plates, colour changes and keeper history. Data comes from Experian AutoCheck, DVLA and DVSA, and the report is emailed to you within minutes so you can check a vehicle from the seller's driveway before handing over a deposit.

Buying a touring caravan rather than a motorhome? Tourers cannot be checked by registration because they are not DVLA-registered. See our honest guide to checking a touring caravan, including what the £17.95 CRiS check covers and the physical inspection points that matter most.
